While I understand how a character's pet could come with them if they are on them, but could a pet be used as a price?

For example, the character that I wish to app has a pet that is always with them/on them as they are small and fits the "no appable personality" criteria. Even if pets are more of companions than possessions, could my character lose them as the price for their magic?
