These are very reasonable questions!! Some of the people I'm apping have reserved Servants too, which is also why I want to get their opinions on things.

The general agreement was that the key point is not the Master, but that they need Mana, which is basically magical energy, by any means possible. There are different ways they can get it. A Master is an easy, consistent way to go about this, and it's the standard way. Master has magical potential, Contract allows Servants to eat that magic. But in a sense everyone is already getting mana from Qri via the magic powers she gives them, so that's an element that might come into play. Servants can also get mana from external sources like bodily fluids, eating souls (!!), probably the Palai's electrical channeling, etc. Different Servants can last for different amounts of time without a reliable source of mana. Usually it's only a day or so, but some (Archer class usually) have Independent Action which literally is a skill to let them run off and be less reliant on their Master, so that would vary.

If it would be possible to make it work, I'd say it would be nice if we could set this up in a way that lets players have padding before picking a Master or if that Master dropped, to avoid issues of unplayability or being locked in.
