SETTING

PHYSICAL SETTING INFORMATION

While the image above shows an island surrounded by water, pretend that it's surrounded by open space. The island has a field of gravity like Earth, and falling off the side is possible. If this happens, characters will experience an immediate weightlessness and sense of panic. They won't be immediately saved. Characters may attempt to save them, though after they float out a few yards Qri will sense their departure and slingshot them back to land. Consider that a lesson learned.

The forest around the area isn't tropical and akin to something you'd find in Norway or other countries in Scandinavia. There are tons of tress, though they're all thin and spacious. They're easy to chop down, whether with powers or manpower, and the fields are spacious and flowering. Wild boars live in a majority of the area, and male boars become aggressive during mating season, which may endanger the base camp.

The base camp area is abandoned and somewhat ramshackle - it's been in disrepair for quite some time, but it's not to the point where it's falling apart. There is one large estate building, which may have belonged to someone quite wealthy in the past. It contains multiple bedrooms, kitchens, entertainment rooms and a basement filled with wines and spirits. The purpose of this building was obviously to be a vacation home, filled with pleasures and not much else. The spoiled food that was once in the fridge and any items have already been looted by Brie and Genette. There is a pool located in the back of the estate, though the water has scummed over and mosquitoes have taken it over as their home.

Genette and Brie have taken up residence in bedrooms in the estate, though there are at least six others available. The main dwellings of player characters will be the beach huts that line the closer edge of the island that lies next to the estate. They're extremely small (about 8' x 8') and contain a cot, a small stool and a shelf on one wall. There are slots where names can be written into wood on the front of each house. Characters will have to stake their own claim on these makeshift homes.

The bathrooms and shower areas are located in another building. This bathhouse is in disrepair, but because it's made of ornate stone it's not as dilapidated as the wood houses and huts. There are four different large bath areas, as well as a room containing closed in shower stalls. The pools are deepseated, and it's assumed that they're heated and replensihed by natural springs. There are also three seperate restroom areas with about 10 toilets each with plumbing in a workable state.

All of these setting mechanics are open-ended for player use. Rooms and their contents can be largely up to discretion. Make hideyholes and crevaces for secret meetings and rendezvous if you'd like!

If you'd like to explore the setting, get in contact with the mods! We can let you know about certain secret spots around the island if you or a band of characters would further map out and search the island.

PLAYER DISCOVERED LOCATIONS AND ROOMS

[personal profile] lalliho | 07/17/17 | A small shrine, though there are no noticable items found inside. A foreign language is inscribed in a few of the stones and the building is in slight disrepair.
[personal profile] splinten | 07/17/17 | A small hut tucked into a field that's surrounded by denser trees. The hut has two doors, windows, a fire place and a table inside, but is void of other items or appliances.
[personal profile] potentite | 07/17/17 | A a giant tree, unlike any of the others already present on the island, in a field east of base camp. It's unremarkable, minus its size and the fact that it's completely hollow.
[personal profile] needmetoo | 07/17/17 | Xion will find an orchard not very far from the base camp. While the fruit the trees bare are a mystery for now, they would eventually grow a small, stinky fruit that contains very pure water -- don't let the smell fool you. However, for now the orchard is diseased and nothing will grow without outside help.
[personal profile] cadventuretime | 07/17/17 | The central locations where the boars live: a massive mud pit, right near the base of one of the mountains. How useful is this location? Well...how much do you like mud baths?
[personal profile] teratias | 07/17/17 | A field filled with large bushes a little further down from the newly discovered house. These bushes are home to a species of grape that taste deceptively like meat.
[personal profile] parodeity | 07/17/17 | A small lagoon next to the mountain closest to the base camp. The lagoon is small and picturesque, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in farmable resources and beauty. A species of fish can be found swimming around in the waters, as well as a variety of turtles, frogs and other pond creatures. It may have been part of a garden or other standing structure at one time as evident by a large stone bench placed to the side of the lagoon itself.
[personal profile] tenzoku | 07/17/17 | A collection of three small shrines, all in a row. Only the shrines themselves are standing, so no personal affects or offerings can be found.
[personal profile] andsobelow | 07/17/17 | A small cemetery that's partially concealed by an overgrown field, located just north of the base camp. It's small, easy to miss and doesn't look more than 10 years old. Graves are marked with indeterminate numbers of slashes that have been done very hastily, though there is no obvious pattern and no names are placed on the stones.
[personal profile] drunkle | 07/17/17 | A strange hole in the island catty-corner from the base camp by about a mile. The hole is about as big around as your average swimming pool, and goes straight through the island. Misstep and it's easy to fall straight through to space.
[personal profile] songbird_slayer | 07/17/17 | A very large boar nesting area about two miles away from the base camp. There are various little divets in the ground made from dirt and field grass, potentially where the boars lay down for the evening. The reason these boars reside here? The surrounding land is filled with berry bushes that act as the natural food source of boars, though they are inedible to humans...though you likely won't know until you try them.
[personal profile] oneandmikleonly | 07/17/17 | A rather unusual metal structure. Its purpose is unclear, and there's nothing else remarkable about it, minus the initial oddity. It is, however, fashioned into a completely perfect circle.
[personal profile] mech_and_mutt | 07/17/17 | A coastline that does actually have a bit of ocean still attached to it. It's a space that's about a mile wide and a mile long, jutting out of the rock and floating in space. It ends as abruptly as the rest of the coast, as if someone tore a chunk of the ocean off along with the land surrounding it.
[personal profile] windeity | 07/17/17 | A large mushroom-filled plain. The oddity of the location is that each cluster of mushrooms is grown into a fairy ring pattern. These mushrooms ARE edible.
[personal profile] lunala | 07/17/17 | A sloping stream coming down one of the nearest mountains. The water runs rather fast, making the stream appear to be more like a rapids. No fish inhabit the water, but there are several frogs that live along the banks.
[personal profile] he_smol | 07/17/17 | a part of the forest that is more dense than the rest. It's inhabited by a large species of spider for this reason. The spider is roughly the size of a saucer at adult size. They aren't vicious, but stepping through a web might result in a bite. The bite will swell the victim's tongue for 24 hours.
[personal profile] grimdeity | 07/17/17 | What used to be a playground to the north of the base camp. The equipment is rusted but workable: a swing set, merry-go-round, a jungle gym and a large slide. There is also a small picnic area next to this playground, containing two metal tables with two benches each. It's surrounded by thick bushes, so the area is quite secluded.
[personal profile] probablynoteren | 07/17/17 | A small stream that shoots off from the typical water source. It ends out in a lagoon type area with a variety of frogs hopping around, but the main point of interest might be the strong, thick reeds that grow in this area, perfect for building or creating tools with.
[personal profile] gymconquering | 07/17/17 | A meadow containing a strange type of flower. However, only a few are currently transparent. This flower absorbs the colour of the liquid that touches it, and the recent worm mist has dyed the petals a myriad of different colours. They have very sturdy yet thin stems, making them good for weaving.
[personal profile] tropism | 07/17/17 | A small clearing when exploring on his own. It is to the east of the base camp and is unremarkable, aside from three different points of interest: there are four rusted tent pegs still stuck in the ground off to the side of the clearing, dirty shreds of tarp littering the ground in various places and a slightly rusted camp stove stuck into the ground near the center.
[personal profile] yokunaru | 07/17/17 | A large rock garden to the east, somewhere near the large house the group discovers. The area of the rock garden is about the size of an average yard, though it also contains stone benches and various bird feeders (though these have grown moss and don't contain food or water).
[personal profile] liveinskin | 07/17/17 | A small hole in the side of the mountain nearest to the base camp. This hole is about 5' high and wide, and runs through the mountain clear to the other side. There are various smaller hole entrances inside of the tunnel, though they are about the size of a fist and can't be entered or excavated. The sides of the tunnel are stone.
[profile] bubblerasco | 07/17/17 | A strange split in the side of the nearest mountain. The split is about 7' wide, 6' tall and goes about 30' deep. Inside is a dark cave, though the walls are lined with a shining green gemstone. They're easy to pull out with enough force, and there are about 1000 covering the walls, each about the size of an average human palm.
[personal profile] secrowtary | 07/17/17 | A large stone slab in the middle of a clearing in the forest. It looks like it was once covered with a sort of wooden roof, as there are splintered pieces of boards littering the area, as well as long wooden beams leaning haphazardly from their place in the ground. Surrounding the stone are tiny glass sculptures, which may lead someone to believe that it was once a sort of fertility shrine.
[personal profile] heartkey | 07/17/17 | A patch of land that looks relatively normal, however the ground is very much unreliable. The moss that covers this sinkhole looks like grass. Only stepping in with one foot will leave someone capable of getting out, but stick two feet in and you may be a goner! This area is located Northwest of base camp.
[personal profile] burnblonde | 07/17/17 | A large wooden door in the ground while exploring the western side of the island. It's covered with brush, though stepping on it will obviously feel like wood, not the Earth. If she chooses to open this door, she'll find a ladder that will drop her down about ten feet. There is a tunnel inside that leads back the way she came until a wall is reached with another ladder, leading her to a door in the ceiling that opens up into the mansion's wine cellar.
[personal profile] fivefingerdeathpunch | 07/17/17 | A large cave on the Northern side of the mountain closest to base camp. It isn't a very deep cave, though it has a wide mouth and is about 10' tall. It's enough for shelter or privacy. However, there do appear to be boar droppings around the mouth of the cave, indicating it may also be a place where boars take shelter from inclement weather as well.
[personal profile] actus | 07/17/17 | A rather large rock that appears to be made from glass. The rock appears holographic and reflects light very vividly. It's rather soft and can break very easily. It's about the size of a milk crate and located to the north of base camp in the forest.
[personal profile] sundays | 07/17/17 | A small waterfall. It's located at the water source nearest to the base camp. The mouth of the waterfall ends into a smaller stream, but there is a beautiful rock shelf located behind the waterfall that can hold about four people.
[personal profile] rebells | 07/17/17 | A rather craggy area near the eastern coast, filled with bizarrely sharp rocks that jut out from the ground. This area is also inhabited with a variety of snakes, some of which are poisonous. These can be determined by a diamond print on their bellies.
[personal profile] mapsio | 07/17/17 | A very small clearing that has a variety of different shrub-like, ground cover-esque plants instead of the usual grass. The area smells quite pungent, which is due to the fact that these shrubs are actually herb and spice bushes. She can find mind, thyme, and other spices that she's familiar with, as well as foreign plants that don't exist on Earth.

MAGICAL FREQUENCY INFORMATION

This is how magic works in the universes according to game lore. All universes, worlds and timelines have their own magic frequency, which won't be gone into in terms of technical, numerical levels. This frequency can essentially be either high or low depending on the setting. A setting's frequency dictates its threshold for magic use

A setting that has a low magical frequency means that latent magic is not stablized within the environment and therefore cannot work. It's like mixing oil and water, where the oil sits on the top. A character's pre-existing powers will float on their skin's surface, but these powers cannot diffuse into the atmosphere or reality.

A setting that has a high magical threshold will be totes okay for powers. Some characters may even feel a noticable shift in the atmosphere in these locations. For example, a character that is a spiritual medium will feel disconnected with spirits on a low frequency world, while they will be able to feel that connection again in a world with a high frequency.

Some worlds that experience large disasters or other shifts may move up or down the bar of frequency, like a once peaceful world suddenly being bestowed with magic gifts, or a world where magic once flourished being dulled by a frequency downgrade.

The magic bestowed upon everyone by Qri is peculiar in that it isn't confined within these rules. The magic she gives to characters isn't boxed in by these parameters and can be used on worlds with any kind of magical frequency. The reason why and how Qri can do this is unknown, but may speak to her power as a universal mage.

Event posts will clearly dictate where a world is on a low or high frequency. There is no middle ground for the sake of the game - either a world is low and characters can't use their pre-game powers, or characters can use their pre-game powers in a high freuqency world.

There is only one type power that will be limited at the time of this post. If you have a power that could travel dimensions, teleport across worlds or something similar, the power will be limited to the high-frequency world they're currently residing on. If you'd like to discuss specific stipulations if you have a character with powers like these, make a note in your app and we will discuss the best way to acclimate your character into the game!
